July 12, 2020—Women in the Golf Industry (WIGI) recognized two new honorary members in 2020, they include PGA of America President Suzy Whaley and LPGA Founder and Hall of Fame member Shirley Spork. Throughout their careers, both women have contributed in significant ways to women and others in the business and game of golf.

Whaley, who holds status as an LPGA member and is also a PGA Master Professional, is the first reigning female president of the PGA of America, the largest working sports organization in the world. She has a passion for teaching and is currently the Director of Instruction at the Country Club at Mirasol (West Palm Beach, FL). Additionally, she is the owner of Suzy Whaley Inc., who specializes in corporate instruction and is a highly regarded keynote speaker. She ranks as a “Top 50” LPGA instructor and “Top 50” Best Teacher by Golf Digest, among other distinctions.

Spork, one of the 13 Founders of the LPGA Tour in 1950, took up the game in her youth and continues playing and enjoying the game – now at age 93. Following her tour career, she was instrumental in the development of the LPGA’s Professional’s in 1959. Spork twice-held the distinction as LPGA National Teacher of the Year. She was recently inducted into the PGA of America Hall of Fame and is the recipient of the Marilynn Smith Achievement Award and the Ellen Griffin Rolex Award, along with other honors.

“We are extremely proud to recognize Suzy and Shirley as honorary members of Women in the Golf Industry,” said WIGI President Le Ann Finger, LPGA/PGA. “They are both incredible women who have dedicated their lives to the game of golf and serve as excellent role models for our WIGI members.”
